The TEFL test measures the ability of a non native English speaker to write, read, listen, and speak the English language. Students taking this test have a vast amount of resources to draw upon in order to be successful. They can take practice test, review their scores, and view tips on the test website.
Test takers will listen to lectures presented by college professors that simulate the same way lectures are presented on college campuses. Students will then answer questions based on what they have heard. They will be required to answer questions by writing their answers and by speaking their answers. All aspects of the English language are covered in the test.
During the TEFL test, students will be tested on their listening skills, speaking skills, writing skills, and reading skills. Students will be permitted to take notes in some portions of the test, such as the listening portion.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language can be taken over the Internet and students will need to use a headset to complete the listening and speaking parts. The Reading portion of the test contains 3 to 5 passages and students will answer 12-14 questions over those passages. The Listening portion of the test contains approximately 4 to 6 passages and students will answer 5 to 6 questions over this material. The Speaking and Writing sections of the test contain tasks that the students must complete, with the Speaking portion containing 6 tasks and 6 questions and the Writing portion containing 2 tasks and 2 questions.
Students must take the entire TEFL over the course of one day. Individual sections cannot be taken alone. Test takers can also take the TEFL multiple times in order to improve their scores; however, only the most current score will be considered.
The TEFL website includes a vast amount of resources for students taking the test. Test takers can sign up for the test, download tips and practice tests, and purchase extra study materials. Students who purchase volumes of practice tests can get immediate feedback and see their scores instantly as well. Students who take advantage of the free sample questions can see the answers but will not receive feedback or scores.
In order to succeed at this English test, students will need to set aside plenty of time to prepare for the exam. Students will need to study all aspects of the English language, including vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and syntax. Help is available for test takers who wish to succeed. The test is only the first step in a successful college career and then it’s on to success in the workplace.
